Connecting shop-floor data to finance in a 40-year-old manufacturer

Production data lived in spreadsheets and reached finance a month late. An integration layer now reconciles output, inventory and invoicing nightly.

The situation

Sterling Manufacturing came to us with the problem described above. We started with a paid discovery phase to map the current state, quantify the cost of leaving it alone, and agree what success would be measured on.

What we did

Delivery ran in fortnightly increments with a shared board and a demo at the end of each cycle. Every architectural decision was written down, and the client's own engineers were in the room for each one.

The result

The numbers above were measured 90 days after handover. Documentation, infrastructure definitions and source code sit in Sterling Manufacturing's own accounts.
